Artist: Patrick
Harrigan
Project Description:
Patrick created the ceramic cups and attached
a rotary solenoid with wire "clappers" to the neck of
each. When the clappers strikes the cups it creates different tones.
He experimented with different glazes and
techniques to produce the notes he was aiming for. Patrick then
programmed these mechanisms to strike the cups and play songs like
"Chop Sticks", Michael Jackson's "Thriller."
His own random compositions were quite striking as well.
This project also had a control panel with buttons.
By pressing a buttons, a new song would play.
*please note that these pictures are not the best
quality but we thought this project should be shown anyway.
System:
One Teleo
Multi IO Module and one Teleo
Digital Out Module. The Multi IO Module was connected to the
switches and the Digital Out Module controlled the solenoids. Patrick
used Cycling
74's Max to generate the songs and the random compositions.

Ceramic cups and spring mechanisms. These mechanisms were programmed
to play Michael Jackson's "Thriller."

This image shows the control panel. By pressing
a button, a new song would play.
