powering the make controller

Posted by Fionnuala McMullin at May 27. 2008

Hello.  I have a 12V battery pack (1.2Ah) and I'd like it to power both the Make at 9.6V and the servos externally at about 5V.  Is this possible or do I need two separate battery packs?

I'm guessing your looking for something like this (http://www.hvwtech.com/products_view.asp?ProductID=586). Not sure if it would work any other oppinions?

Hello, I have made something similar with just one battery. What I did, so I could just use one instead of two battery's, was to feed the application board directly from the battery, since it is safe to go up to 12v, then from the same battery I have spited it in two wires and connected to the external power servo connectors. In order to feed 3.5V to the servos (in my case), I have used a multimeter to read the values coming from the servo connectors and found what is the correct duty value that needs to be set (lower than 1023) so that only 3.5V outputs in the servo connectors. Don't forget to change jumpers to VExternal. Don't know if it is the best practice/solution but it worked ok for me. Cleon
