IR-Distance sensors value vibration

Posted by jiří rouš at September 10. 2008

Hello

I connected a few ir-distance measuring sensors to an MC-board and the value which they return to pure data by UPD connection is vibrating + - 20 points up and down...  I tried to connect only one but it is the same....  And  the value which they return is smaller than is  referred on the web (in real cca70 - cca830, on the web 0 - 1024) but it is not the main problem and I can evade this.

I forget to ask.....
is there any possibility to fix this vibration.?????

The distance sensors have a very narrow sensing beam. If the things you're measuring are moving in and out of the beam very quickly then it would create this vibration effect. Can you measure something big and flat (like the side of a book or something) to test? Also, do you have the sensors mounted to anything so they're not moving too much?

You don't say which make make & model of sensor, but you probably need to add a capacitor into the circuit, as near as possible to the sensor.  For the Sharp range I use a 10uF 16V.
