Windows Vista a Problem???

Posted by Steve Battaglia at June 05. 2007
Problems here.....connect the controller after mchelper installed and the driver is installed and recognized...then heavey.bin is uploaded with success and the power reset by unplugging the USB cable....Now here's the problem...when I reconnect the USB after "heavy" upload....the computer says it cannot find the driver for the unrocognized device and communication between Mchelper and the board is dead......I'm way confused....I'm running Vista and after looking for the driver (after heavy upload and re-power)the computer eventually "sees" the "Make Contoller" but syas there is a problem with the driver and to contact the manufactuer.....HELP!!! :undecided:

Hi there - with your Make Controller Kit connected, open your Device Manager and under "Ports", right-click on "uninstall" and remove your current driver. Download this driver and then reinstall. In the installer, you'll want to specify the location of the driver as wherever you downloaded this file.

I'm trying to resolve my previous mc issues (see "Web server issues" thread) by booting into Windows so that I can run MC Helper.   I've run into the problem in this thread but I don't know enough about windows apparently to follow this.  Although I've downloaded the file above and even found a way to install it (via Device Manager/intall legacy hardware/ports/have disk), I still get the  "USB Device Not Recognized" message box when I plug in the MC.

I managed to get MChelper running just once and it recognized the usb-MC as "Samba".

Any ideas or more step by step procedure?

I really need to get networking going on the MC's for  a class we will use it in this fall.

THanks!

Here's the vista output:

Description:
Windows was able to successfully install device driver software, but the driver software encountered a problem when it tried to run. The problem code is 10.

Files that help describe the problem:
  C:\Users\blake\AppData\Local\Temp\DMIE80F.tmp.log.xml
  C:\Windows\inf\oem27.inf

If you don't mind running dev software, branch v25 of mchelper now works via USB under Linux.  No tarball, it's in SVN, and Qt 4.4 is needed in order for it to compile, which was a (fixable) problem on my system.

I know very little of Windows, so I'm not going to be able to be of much help with that.

Also of note if you are running Linux, you will also need the CVS version of Sam7 (which no longer requires building/installing the at91 driver). EBo --

oops... never mind. I read the last message and did not realize that this is a vista problem not linux. I am not sure of the status of v25 on vists. Liam might know... Sorry about that... EBo --

Hm - I don't have a Vista machine myself so I always have to rely a bit on others to help out, but that error isn't too familiar looking. One thing I've seen people have issues with in Vista is that there tend to be more places that require admin/password authentication. Did this happen in the installation procedure at all? Any strangeness? What kind of entry are you left with in the device manager?
