Compiling with Eclipse
Up to Development Discussion
Hi!
Sorry for my newbism,
Since I've had some problems with Yagarto and Mcbuild, and that Crosswrks is not free, I decided to try Eclipse using the tutorial. I think the tutorial should be updated. For one, there are multiple packages available on the Eclipse website (which isn't mentioned in the tutorial) and the two I tried look different from the tutorial pictures. CDT seems already included now. Packages have different names, options have different names, order of operation may also be different. Anyway, I couldn't compile anything.
Anyone has got good results using Eclipse? Should I spend some and get Crossworks?
Thanks - I can spend some time bringing that up to date.
I'd be interested to hear what your problems with mcbuilder have been...perhaps in a separate post so as not to hijack this one?
I am using the Yagarto toolchain and Eclipse 3.4. From http://www.eclipse.org/downloads/ I chose the "Eclipse IDE for C/C++ Developers" package for Windows.
After setting up Eclipse, I was able to recompile the heavy version 1.5.1 firmware successfully. The instructions on how to build the firmware using Eclipse (http://www.makingthings.com/documentation/how-to/build-firmware-with-eclipse) were helpful even though they were written for Eclipse 3.2.
I noticed that the heavy 1.5.1 firmware .bin file that I built was somewhat different from the firmware that you can download (http://www.makingthings.com/resources/downloads), but I haven't yet figured out why. Did anyone else notice this?
