xbee woes

Posted by JP Kelly at September 27. 2008
I have been trying to get a couple xbee modules to send data to each other. With no joy. I am able to program the xbees (i think) with '/xbeeconfig/packet-mode' 1. I know this works because sending the command '/xbeeconfig/packet-mode' gives the response '/xbeeconfig/packet-mode AT 1'. I have carefully followed the instructions found here http://www.makingthings.com/documentation/tutorial/xbee-wireless-interface I have upgraded the firmware to version 10C0 using the instructions found here: http://www.makingthings.com/documentation/how-to/update-xbee-settings-with-x-ctu Although I see in a comment on that page that Digi recommends using version 10A5. I will try flashing that version onto the modules. I have checked the basics: soldering, power, connections, etc. Everything seems to be working but I am not seeing any messages coming from the transmitter to the receiver. Are there any debugging troubleshooting commands to see that a module is actually transmitting or receiving? Any ideas on how to solve this?

Well I downgraded the firmware of the xbee to 10A5 but it still does not work. I feel like I am missing something stupid here.

OK. I got it to work! I reset the receiving module with the RE command, saved it with the WR command and then just configured it as per the tutorial with: /xbeeconfig/packet-mode 1 /xbeeconfig/write 1 I guess in all my mucking around with the module I configured a setting it did not like.
