What's the idea with these connectors?

We have wrestled for years with connector choices, finally we discovered these new connectors by Phoenix Contact.

We've always like screw connectors because stripped wire is a universal connection mechanism. No special connectos, no "vendor lockin". They did have a disadvantage, though, removing a board from a project was a major issue, unscrewing many wires, then remembering how to get them back together again, was a pain. These new connectors, however, offer the best of both worlds. You can use them as plain screw connectors, or you can plug and unplug them. Another minor advantage is that we can use the board space underneath the connectors which is normally unusable for labeling.

For the two position terminal block, the Digikey and Phoenix part numbers are 277-1607-ND and 1934861 respectively, and for the header 277-1645-ND and 1933189. See the catalogs for more information, and for the part numbers for the connectors of other sizes.
